The bertram bile time travel adventure series
Bertram Bile is an 11-year-old time traveller and the last 'norn' (pronounced norm) in the world. A norn is a person who uses magic - a wizard. Bertram has three Norns, aunties who are witches and live inside the roots of the old ash tree at the source of the River Thames. The idea for the three Norns came from my studies of Norse mythology when I was at Steiner School as a child. I always wanted to know more about the Norns, so I created my own version in the Bertram Bile series. Aunty Wyrd looks after the past, aunty Skuld looks after the present, and aunty Verdandi looks after all the things in the future. The sisters are triplets, and have an older sister, Bertram's aunty Hester, the tree witch.
Each book in the Bertram Bile time travel adventure series can be read on its own or as part of the series, so it doesn't matter which book you start with. Each story is set at a real place, somewhere along the River Thames. The series will eventually travel the length of the river from its source at Thames Head/Tewksbury Mead in Gloucestershire, to where it meets the North Sea on the coast of Essex. The stories follow the same route that I take as I swim along the River Thames, and eventually around the whole coast of Great Britain, so there will be a lot more Bertram Bile adventures to come!
The libby lane mysteries
Libby Lane is a science teacher at a very small school in a hamlet in North West England. She lives in the old school house which belongs to the former HeadMistress who is now off exploring Machu Picchu. In the first book, the former Headmistress goes missing, (presumed dead), and her home is mysteriously acquired by a nephew that no one has ever heard of, and now he wants to sell it.
Libby Lane and her class need to solve the mystery so that they can save the old school house, school, and hamlet from disaster.
There are three books in the Libby Lane series. All due to be released in summer 2018
How to... Books
One day, I might release a series of 'how to...' books with my tips and tricks for expedition fundraising, ice swimming, exam revision, getting your stunt licence, getting a job on film and television productions, publishing a book, getting into medical school. If you have a topic that you would like help with, let me know and I'll see if I can put all my experience and lessons learnt into a 'how to' book for you. Drop me an email to firstname.lastname@example.org with the heading 'how to book idea'.
Expedition Colouring Books
As I swim along the length of the River Thames and undertake new expeditions, I'll be sharing my drawings with you on my blog. These can be downloaded and coloured in for free. Once they have each been digitally traced, I'll create a collection of drawings for each location and make them available to purchase as a colouring book. My first book is the Rydal Water colouring book (check out this newspaper article), as this is where I walk my dog Isla each morning before I start writing my Bertram Bile stories. Soon there will be books based along the length of the Thames, and beyond.
