My favourites are the classic, milky, and the salted caramel. But they also do dark chocolate, chilli, and a new one that I haven't yet tried - salted caramel and clementine. You need to boil your milk first and then sprinkle in the grated chocolate, and I usually add a couple of drops of essence of peppermint, or orange for a little extra boost, and either marshmallows on top, or if I can get them, the Hotel Chocolat chocolate dippers (they stopped doing the ones I really liked). If you need to feel guilt free about your hot chocolate then you'll be pleased to know that if you go for the higher cocoa version it is actually scientifically proven to be a mood booster and good for you. Besides - it didn't do Harry Potter any harm when faced with dementors! I suppose that the Hotel Chocolat kind of reminds me of cold wintery days when I lived in London and would nip into Carluccio's for a 'bicerin' pick me up after an exhausting shift at work - a trio of Florentine hot chocolate, espresso, and cream!! Finally, on my wishlist this week, is this really cool advent calendar from Molton Brown. Definitely a luxury item for someone with deep pockets! I've been a big fan of Molton Brown since my days of living in London when I was at the height of my profession and had disposable income and a very different lifestyle that allowed me to shop in fancy places like Selfridges (lovely at Christmas time with the lights in the street). They are a London based company, animal cruelty free, and most of the products are vegan friendly. Molton Brown are definitely what I call my 'future self' or 'aspirational' faves because they remind me of a time when I had financial freedom and they make me dreamy about my future life as a successful writer provided that I continue to put in the hard work. I have two favourite scents; 'fiery pink pepper', and 'coastal cypress and sea fennel'. For some reason, the coastal cypress fragrance reminds me of my time spent as a professional speaker on cruise ships, and being surrounded by luxury so it always makes me smile when I use it in the shower and brings back loads of happy memories. Sadly, they don't do the fiery pink pepper candle anymore, but this was my 'writing candle' that I always had on when I was being creative at my desk. I used to love the Yankee Candle 'Candy Cane Lane' candle in the winter but that has been discontinued too. Last year for Christmas (actually it was in the January Sales when the price was reduced), I treated myself to a Molton Brown selection box (similar to this) and am still working my way through the bottles, so that was definitely a worthwhile investment, especially since it helped me pick up my mood or change my state of mind when I was having a rough day. It was about £18 in the sale and had about 15 bottles including 'Frankincense' which is only available at Christmas. The 'Russian Leather' is also really nice. Plus it is a great way to test out new scents and because I got it from their website, I got some other free samples included which was a bonus. Definitely worth keeping an eye out for offers and sales and definitely on my wishlist even if they are all beyond my budget at the moment, but I shall definitely be saving up, ready to grab some things in the January sale to keep me going for the next year.

I have to confess that I've already treated myself to one of these as an early Christmas present! Mainly because there is a special reduced price right now and I need some help with my productivity whilst working from home, so I got one for £34.99 instead of £49.99. I've had it for two days and it is already a game changer. I'm especially enjoying one of the Blueprint skills called 'get me up.' Each morning at 5am Alexa wakes me up to the sound of bird song, and if I'm not up, Alexa keeps arguing with me until I do get up, which it turns out is a great way to start the day off laughing as Alexa comes up with some brilliant comebacks each time I tell her I'm not getting out of bed. It's also brilliant for listening to music (you can create free playlists on Amazon Music if you have a Prime subscription too, which I'm really enjoying), audiobooks, reading your Kindle books to you, and for scheduling all sorts of things like turning lights on and off at set times. I can't wait to play around with it a bit more, and my next addition is one of the buttons, which I plan to use so that Isla my dog can tap it to let me know when she needs to go outside for a pee. |

Last Chance to Grab Your Cozy Mystery Day Limited Edition Enamel Pin
Production is about to begin on a very special, limited edition, cozy mystery day enamel pin. I'll be creating a new pin each year to celebrate #cozymysteryday and the order will be going in to designer Amy at Pin Head UK on Sunday 15th September. So if you want an enamel pin then you need to be quick. To get one, you need to become a Patreon patron for $1 for the month, if you don't want to stay as a patron, there is no obligation to do so, though of course it would be ace if you decided to stick around because it helps me to cover the costs of putting Free Book Friday together. FYI, patrons get all my books for free before anyone else, as well as my audiobooks and other swag. There are no extra costs involved and your pin will be posted to you as soon as I receive delivery from Amy in about 4-5 weeks time. |

Cozy Mystery Christmas List Ideas
Hmmm, very intrigued by this one as it is labelled as a cozy mystery so I hope that it is and not just a book trying to sneak in under the cozy genre. But having watched the Graham Norton show on television and being a fan of mysteries set in Ireland, I'd definitely take a risk on this one and add it to my Christmas stocking. If you have read it already, then let me know what you thought. |

I absolutely LOVE this murder mystery series set in Australia with the wonderful amateur sleuth Miss Phryne Fisher. Even better is that you can watch the whole series free on Amazon using the Acorn 7 day free trial. If you want to get into the Christmas mood at any time of year, then I particularly recommend series 2, episode 12 'Murder Under the Mistletoe.' Watch out for the brand new Kickstarter crowdfunded movie which is due out very soon! Maybe gift your loved one some cinema tickets for when it comes out or keep an eye out for similar crowdfunding opportunities with loads of potential to get hands on and behind the scenes. Here are somes publishing and movie projects to give you a taste. |
